The whole holiday was first class and exceeded our expectations. The initial organization went very smoothly on this custom made safari and beach stay and Imagine Africa Safaris were able to put together exactly what was required.
Ol Tukai in Amboseli was just as we remembered from 12 years ago although it was very up to date, clean and well kept. The atmosphere was good and the staff very helpful and friendly. The food was good with a few themed nights and all laid out so wonderfully.
We used the Lodge vehicle and guide for the game drives and only once had to share a drive. The driver/guide was very knowledgeable and happy to go at our pace, which is very slow, so we can see situations developing and not just ticking off the animals. The animals, especially the elephants were great, and load of them. We had a very good en*counter with a cheetah and her cubs early one morning just as the sun was rising.
Serena Mara Lodge in the Mara Triangle was out of this world with the most magnificent reception area looking out across the Mara and down to the Mara River. Once again the staff were friendly and helpful and the food was very good. We used the Lodge vehicle and guide again who was good and friendly, always ready to answer our questions and point things out to us. We had a whole day safari here, going out at 07.30 and returning at 19.00 which was great as we were able to go right around the Mara Triangle and to the border with Tanzania. We had a packed lunch provided by the Lodge which we ate under a tree, in the middle of nowhere with no one to be seen, wonderful. Our breakfast by the Hippo Pool after an early morning game drive was very good, tables scattered amongst the bushes by the river with Hippos wallowing about and in a small clearing the breakfast was being freshly cooked by the chefs from the Lodge. Once again there was an abundance of animals including 5 black rhino, lions, large Jennies of giraffe and gazelles, which we watched from the pool just in front of the Lodge.
We travelled between the game parks by aircraft, which went very smoothly. Being collected by Imagine Africa for our transfers went without a hitch and our drivers were friendly and helpful.
After the Safaris we went down to Mombasa and stayed at Serena Beach Resort overlooking the Marine National Park. Once again a first class hotel with everything you could wish for including spa. The food, staff and service we received could not have been better. I particularly like the glass of fizz brought to our room each evening while getting changed for dinner.
Here we spent a lazy few days and didn’t venture outside the resort as we had visited Mombasa before, although there are a large range of things to do in the area. We spent our days swimming, snorkeling and sailing. We had a trip on the glass-bottomed boat to see the corals and to swim with the incredible array of fish, all sizes and all colours. You do however have to pay each day to enter the water to snorkel, as it’s a Marine National Park.
We were put in touch with Imagine Africa Safaris by relatives and were extremely happy with all they did in a friendly, professional manner. I can’t thank them enough and will definitely use them again and recommend them to our friends.
